Miami Heat complete signing of Zydrunas Ilgauskas
The Heat continue to churn out press releases announcing the official addition of yet another center:
The Miami HEAT announced today that they have signed free agent center Zydrunas Ilgauskas. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“As we continue to shape our roster, we have filled a key position with the addition of Zydrunas,” said HEAT President Pat Riley. “He is a two-time All-Star, a proven rebounder, and a great shot blocker. His place in NBA history is already clear, and we are pleased to be able to add a seasoned veteran of his caliber to our roster.”
Ilgauskas has appeared in 771 career games (673 starts) with the Cleveland Cavaliers over 12 seasons. During his career, all with Cleveland, he has averaged 13.8 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.65 blocks, 1.2 assists and 28.3 minutes, while shooting 47.5 percent from the field and 78.0 percent from the foul line. Ilgauskas is a two-time NBA All-Star (2003 & 2005), and ranked first in Cavaliers history in both offensive rebounds (2,336) and blocks (1,269). His career totals in those same categories rank tied for 42nd place and 44th place in NBA history, respectively.
During the 2009-10 season, Ilgauskas averaged 7.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 20.9 minutes, while shooting 44.3 percent from the field in 64 games (six starts). He recorded double-figure points on 19 occassions and four double-digit rebound games.
Ilgauskas, who will wear #11 for the HEAT, was originally selected with the 20th pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 1996 NBA Draft.

d-league players and (Miller and Old-Z…Im looking at you) old stiffs. So you dont think playing next to a defensive orientated center instead of a three point shooting european (Soft) center in okur will help cover Boozer’s short commings on defensive. When is the last time Spoestra been out of the first round…oh i forgot…never. If Spoestra came come from the mailroom / janitor’s closet and be a decent coach…then I have all the confidence in the world in a coach that has been in the league for twenty years and have learned from coaches like stan van gundy…who in turn learned from the decomposed body of pat riley.

First off its Spoelstra, second off, its not like Big Z is going to be playing a lot of minutes, there are other centers on the roster, Miller is only 30 years old, he’s got plenty of years left. You can’t blame Spoelstra for what he was given for the last 2 years, his teams definitely over achieved the last 2 years, it basically was Wade and hardly anyone else. As far as your coach, there is probably a reason why he was an assistant for 20 years, people didn’t think he was ready, if they did he would have succeeded Rivers over in Boston but they didn’t want that did they? And I don’t think the playing alongside Noah is going to make that much of a difference on the defensive end of the court, he’ll help Noah get good looks at the basket but thats about all I can see. I’m not about bashing other teams, I just want to see the games played and let the playing do the talking, there is to much speculation on what will happen and what could happen.

D-Rose still has a long way to go and mean a LONG way before he can even get near Dwyane Wade’s level, Noah is a glorified Anderson Varejao, and Loul Deng well lets not even start with him. I think Kirk Hinrich was your best asset, he played defense and on most nights he is a pretty good shooter, and you guys gave him away for noting. If you think your roster is “developed” then there is no hope for you. You are completely blinded by your on ignorance. How about you watch an NBA game in which the Bulls are not playing and expand your Knowledge of the game because it is severely lacking.

Usually depth matters and I’m not saying its insignificant but no team has Dwayne Wade & a Lebron James on the same team..Let alone a Chris Bosh..These guys will be playing 35 plus minutes a night with a couple solid role players in Haslem & Miller. The vets will definitely benefit the team because riley chose his center based on defense and size.. The bulls did a nice job this offseason. but once again to all the haters. we are talking about Dwayne Wade & Lebron James & Chris Bosh. If these 3 develop chemistry, the Bulls will look like a middle school basketball team. I’m sorry but the Bulls will NEVER defeat this Heat team in a 7 game series. And that is not accounting for the lact of turnovers through powerful plays (Offensively) and the increase in turnovers on other teams offense through powerful defenders regardless of missing that center.
And considering that only 3 players right now are shorter than 6’8 the team minus the 2 G’s when they run a 2 Guard offense will still be backed by strong F’s and a mediocre Center.

Not necessarily, He couldn’t handle Pat Riley’s style, the kid came into the league with some issues to say the least, he didn’t help himself by getting himself into trouble, Riley really didn’t want the kid to begin with but he had to talked into doing it. Well it’s a good thing you’re not just a fair weather fan because it going to get down right ugly for the bulls if think you still have a shot at competing with teams in the Eastern Conference. The Heat, Magic, Celtics, and probably even the Hawks will all have their way with the Bulls. As for Miami not deserving LeBron and Bosh, well who the f*ck cares what you think. Obviously Bosh and LeBron must have really liked it here if picked us over frigid ass cities like Chicago and New York plus we have the greatest SG in the NBA today (which is way better than D-Rose and Noah combined). The reason you don’t see the stadium packed every game which i am sure is not the case in Chicago either is because there are about 100 other things to do around South Beach that are just as enjoyable as a NBA regular season game (and that is year round not just the summer or spring break). But trust me whenever the Heat made it to the playoffs we packed that place up. Oh and one more thing I would bet cold hard cash that most Bulls fans are actually MJ fans that could care less what happens with the team until they make the playoffs.

You know I’ve been reading these strategic talks especially from Lakers and Bulls fans and I have a couple comments that I would like to make.. I’ve been hearing that this guy cancels this guy, that kobe cancels Wade or Boozer cancels Noah or Artest cancels Lebron and from my understanding thats just a bunch of *******. The Bulls won six championships with two All-Star wings and a great power forward, plus some sharpshooting off the bench, using a committee of glorified scrubs at center and no true point guard. Sounds like a familiar recipe.
The Celtics were five points away from beating the Lakers and their army of 7-footers with a fat Rasheed Wallace, Kevin Garnett on bad knees, and BIG BABY DAVIS as the power rotation.
Yeah, this team has holes, but what team doesn’t? The Lakers just won two titles back-to-back, and they couldn’t go faster than jogging speed. Imagine the havoc the Heat will wreak on them in transition, now that Artest, Kobe, and Fish are even older.
As for the Bulls, Boozer will continue to be molested by true bigs and Rose will still be dared to shoot jumpers. If the Jazz struggled as much as they did with Deron Williams at the point, and make no mistake he’s the best all-around PG in the game, why would they fare any better now that half their team (Booz, Korver, Brewer) has just transferred to Chicago?
Basketball is indeed a five-on-five game — so it’ll be interesting to see what happens when James, Wade, and Bosh aren’t doubled nearly as often as they used to be. Throw Miller out there, and not only is there 3-point shooting for even more spacing, but the Heat will often have one of the biggest (and most versatile) perimeter lineups in the league with James-Miller-Wade.
At the 5, the Heat can go energy and shot-blocking with Anthony, height and shooting with Big Z, or weight and 6 fouls with Magloire. Bosh or Haslem can slide in for limited minutes as well, depending on the matchup.
Injuries are as much if not more of a concern for teams like LA, Chicago, and Boston, so really only a potential lockout should worry this team. And even then more for the lost time, because a hard cap would cripple teams like LA and Orlando the most. But there’s no way something like that gets instituted overnight anyway, it’d be phased in.

Right, because Wade and Lebron didn’t have the highest assist numbers in the league for their positions last season (Lebron by a factor of 2) or anything. Not to mention they had supporting casts that could barely finish to give them the assist.

Let’s say two things happen: 1) Kobe doesn’t throw his teammate under the bus during the rape investigation, and 2) Kobe swallows his pride until the age of 27, allowing Shaq to keep the title of “the man” on the Lakers.
If those two things happen, the Lakers win in 2004 (because of lack of “ruckus,” as you call it), and they’re the favorites to win the title in 05 (when Shaq finished second in MVP voting) and 06 (when Shaq won the title with Wade in Miami). That’s 6 titles in a row, and Kobe’s still in his prime, ready to win on his own without Shaq.
