Miami Heat re-sign Jamaal Magloire

Yet another contract has been signed today…

MIAMI,FL – The Miami HEAT announced today that they have re-signed center Jamaal Magloire. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Re-signing Jamaal is a testament to his work ethic and his desire to win,” said HEAT President Pat Riley. “Over the past two seasons in Miami, he has been an asset to this team, in terms of being a role model for our younger players, with his professionalism and his strong locker room presence.”

Magloire has appeared in 628 career games (313 starts) over 10 seasons. He has averaged 7.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 0.94 blocks and 22.4 minutes while shooting 48.0 percent from the field and 64.5 percent from the foul line. He was named a reserve for the Eastern Conference for the 2004 All-Star game and was a one-time selection as Eastern Conference Player of the Month in April 2004.

During the 2009-10 season, Magloire averaged 2.1 points and 3.4 rebounds, while shooting 50.4 percent from the field in 23 games as a reserve. His 16.2 rebound average per 48 minutes was tops on the HEAT.

Magloire was originally signed by the HEAT as a free agent on Sept. 2, 2008 and re-signed again on July 22, 2009. The Canadian native was originally drafted in the first round (19th overall) of the 2000 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Hornets.

I dont know if I am getting excited about the roster or not. Who can guard Howard / Perkins?

[Reply]

Surya Fernandez Reply:

We did ok against those teams last year. If it wasn’t for Jermaine O’Neal already helping his future team in the playoffs with his play the Heat would have been more competitive in that series. Those where the days of Wade trying to do everything. A better question is: how are they going to guard our Big 3?

[Reply]

Wade 4Ever Reply:

Don’t think Perkins needs to be guarded and w/ Orlando you can always stick Bosh on Howard

[Reply]

James Reply:

I agree that Howard could be a bit of an issue matchup-wise, but also agree that it’s kind of silly to worry TOO much about this. Imagine trading places with a Magic fan….do you think those guys are cackling away right now, confident that one matchup advantage (D Howard over the Heat centers) will be enough to cancel out THREE matchup advantages (D Wade/Bron/Bosh over VC/Rashard/whoever)?
Great teams with great players should not be reactionary and worry about the limited advantages that less-talented teams have over them. There’s always going to be some team that does one or two things better. But when you view the whole product, the Magic should be the ones worrying over matchups.

[Reply]

Jacque Reply:

I totally agree…

[Reply]

James Reply:

For example, Patrick Ewing and any other talented center was a matchup problem for the Bulls in the mid-90s, and we all know how that turned out.
I guess this is all just reiterating what Surya said, but yeah, don’t worry, the Heat have 3 superstars and the Magic have 1.

Heat sign who, trashman of the year! Bwahahaha! Terrible addition, should have got shaq and hardaway! I love this site it brings a smile to my face daily!

[Reply]

Surya Fernandez Reply:

Then you’re going to love it when the regular season starts and the trash talking can end. Then we’ll see how good the Heat and Bulls really are. I’ll take my chances on the team with 3 proven All-Stars, one is a 2-time MVP, and another is an NBA Finals MVP. What has anyone on the Bulls done? Please don’t bring up Rose. Hasn’t accomplished anything.

I’m gonna be on here daily just to piss people off! Deal with it or choose a different to let people comment!

Come on surya our depth chart is better and we got two stars that cancel out two of your stars but we will see

[Reply]

James Reply:

When did this “cancel out” approach become acceptable? Really? Derrick Rose cancels out Dwayne freaking Wade? And is the second star Boozer, canceling out Bosh?
The third best player on the Heat would be the best player on the Bulls. There’s no way around that. Just because two players are both all-star caliber talents, they don’t cancel each other out. Wade is better than Rose, Bosh is better than Boozer, and LeBron is the greatest player alive. Ain’t no canceling out going on.

Colin Reply:

You’ll really take time out of each and every day just to come here and spill dribble all over the comment boards? Is there nothing better to do during your free time?

Back to Magliore, even if he isn’t the greatest center, he gives us that much more depth at the position. Throw in the fact that Wade was keen on keeping him around, the locker room will hopefully be filled with palpable chemistry and cohesiveness.

HJA Reply:

I was looking for a word for this canceling out thing that wouldn’t offend anyone…Ret…nah :) How about Moronic. You that works.

Totally agree with you there on the canceling out thing. On James…Not sure about LBJ being the best alive but he sure is damn good. Cant wait to watch Miami play in a few months.

Jacque Reply:

U got that right!!!

Erm shut down? Did you watch NBA last year?
Heat 3-1 against Bulls? And lets not forget the last game when Bulls needed to win for the playoff berth, what happened? L for 30 :) We even didn’t need Wade that game YO. So your shut down thing ….all hate no game ;)

[Reply]

5 Bonzi { 07.19.10 at 5:24 pm }

On a side note, i love that heat is rewarding players that are doing hard work that maybe isn’t always shown on the court but on practices or locker room. Maybe all of them don’t get a lot of money. But to be a part of this years team is a reward by itself.

[Reply]

6 Andy { 07.19.10 at 5:33 pm }

What is this cancelling out thing? So Dominique Wilkins and Michael Jordan were both stars in the 90′s so when the Hawks play the Bulls they’re pretty even because those 2 just cancel each other out right? No, that makes no sense. Derrick Rose and Carlos Boozer are very good. No one is denying that, but they don’t cancel out Bosh, Wade or LeBron. So go to depth. You guys have better depth at the 2 and the 3 but the Heat have better depth now at the 4 and the 5. The Heat are by far the better team. You should be comparing the Bulls to the Hawks, not the Heat. The Hawks, Magic and Celtics are all better than the Bulls

marcus’ to do list:

wake up, brush teeth, comment on heat blog, get dressed, eat breakfast, comment on heat blog, go to work, log in on the computer at work, comment on heat blog, scan/delete emails, take lunch break, use mobile phone to comment on heat blog… (this could go on for days…)

i wish i had this much time to be an e-thug/troll/lurker. there must be a bulls blog where you can rant and rave about your bulls and people actually love you and worship your player-cancelling credentials. i mean, seriously? it’s been so hard to be a heat fan over the years. sure we had 2006 which was amazing, but think before that WAY before that. Expansion team gets owned by your bulls. Then making it to the conference finals with mourning, hardaway, and supporting cast and getting owned again. These past three seasons have been a waste. For the first time in this franchises history, it’s going to be fun and exciting to be a heat fan for more than just a couple years.

your bulls had it, the lakers and celtics have had it, now it’s Miami’s turn. It’s ok to hate, but you don’t have to be so persistent about it and borderline annoying. I’ve been reading this blog for a while now and think that the writer’s here are great and have a VERY different approach when compared to the likes of Ira Winderman and anyone other than LeBatard down here in Miami and I appreciate it. Thanks guys!

[Reply]

shawn Reply:

i really think that is what he does
oh and you forgot this one on his list
go to other websites to look up stuff about miami so he can steal what they say
and go to Wikipedia so he can look up on NBA history

Orlando Reply:

i mean, whatever floats his boat, but when it gets as excessive and obsessive as it has become it really takes over what is a wonderful blog for heat fans. it’s not that his outlook is different than mine – i don’t mind that. it’s the e-thug/troll mentality where it’s almost as if he comes in here to talk trash, get people riled up, and smile on his end of the screen.

i love sports just as much as the next guy, but for me it’s part entertainment and fun and part leisure and a way for me to stay active. Everyone just needs to face the fact that the heat are going to be a very fun group to watch as they develop into what Pat Riley intended to be a dynasty. They’re going to be great for the NBA because whether you’re a fan-boy homer or you’re a hater, you’re gonna watch/attend the games.

people take sports waaaaaay to seriously sometimes and a perfect example is D-Wade’s World Trade Center comments. They took his words so far out of context that he had to make a public apology about it. I mean c’mon…it’s sports. it’s leisure. it’s fun. there’s no need to be as belligerent as he’s been with his comments.

Who here thinks that the Miami Heat will sign Shaq and AI with their last two spots? Shaq could Start for us and AI would be our go to guy off the bench. Although I don’t like the smack Shaq was talking after he left, you can’t deny that he’s still a top 10 Center even at 38

[Reply]

shawn Reply:

he is but just no
just dont feel right

[Reply]

James Reply:

Yeah, I’ve got to say I don’t see the need for it. There were plenty of reports that Shaq had reached out to the Heat and their players, looking to return. LeBron, Wade and Riley all have past experience with Shaq. The fact that NONE of them have mentioned his name as a possibility for this roster should clue people in on how they feel about him.

[Reply]

James Reply:

And with so much talent, there’s absolutely no reason to risk locker room chemistry on a guy like that. He might be able to contribute some, but the risk far outweighs the reward. They can find the 10 and 6 Shaq would contribute from other sources, who haven’t thrown the Heat franchise under the bus in the past.

[Reply]

James Reply:

Also, note the reasoning behind LeBron coming to Miami, and the undertones in UD and James Jones re-signing. “Family.” They always mention how the organization is like a family, and how it’s a class-act from top to bottom. I doubt a franchise that prides itself on these principles would want someone back that treated them with such contempt the last go-around.

Its not even preseason yet and the heat haters are out in full force. We as true heat fans will have to get used to the hate and jealousy that will be aimed at us for the next few years. We are now the yankees of basketball, you either love them or hate, no middle ground. I say let all losers stay awake late at night trying to come up with real reasons are team wont dominate while we sleep soundly knowing barring injury many rings are on the way! Heat fans, put your hater blockers on!!!!

Magliore is a great bench guy and some1 we need to always show intensity during practice, will do more off the court than on the court he’s a great pick up and some1 for Dexter pittman to look up to in the locker room.

As far as the haters go, guys let’s just stop the season hasnt even started. I don’t mind arguing with facts and educated view points but when it gets to the point where it’s rose cancels out wade or some1 else saying the lakers will win cause Adam Morrison has more rings than any of the heat players it’s just sad, annoying and shows how boring ur life is that u spend ur life trying to annoy the average sports fan that goes for their team.

Btw heat fans, it’s always a good sign when the haters are trying to hammer us b4 pre season has even started!!

Just wish I was in Miami to be at the games lol

so true. he’s a big body to help defend/foul the likes of other big men in the league. We don’t need a scoring center, we just need a body that can do an at least decent job defensively and put the ball in the basket from 4-5 feet away consistently. Not to mention rebound the ball when necessary. Supposedly Dexter Pittman is looking real good in the Summer league and he’s a nother big body. Anthony’s an energy, defensive, shot-blocking machine though I feel like he would never have the strength/bodytype to match up with dwight howard or pau gasol (who knows though) and Big Z can stretch the floor if necessary which is a good thing because we don’t want anyone clogging the paint the the big three in there. Big Z’s also a decent pick-n-roll spot-up shooter which makes him versatile.

i like the way the heats roster is developing so far. It seems like they’re building the team with so much hybrid talent. Can’t wait for the season to start already!
