Miami Heat announce Juwan Howard signing
Fourteen years later, the Miami Heat are trying again and signing Juwan Howard. Here is the official press release:
The Miami HEAT announced today that they have signed free agent forward Juwan Howard. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“This is a great addition for us,” said HEAT President Pat Riley. “We feel that Juwan’s ability to play both the four and five spot will be complimentary to what we have put together. He also gives us incredible professionalism and is a perfect fit behind Chris Bosh and Udonis Haslem.”
“This is a great opportunity in order to play in the City of Miami for the HEAT organization,” said Howard. “I’m looking forward to working hard this upcoming season and contributing in any way I can toward the success of the team both on and off the court.”
Howard has appeared in 1,116 career games (898 starts) with seven teams over 16 seasons. During his career, he has averaged 14.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 32.1 minutes while shooting 47.0 percent from the field and 76.3 percent from the foul line. During the 2009-10 season, Howard averaged 6.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 22.4 minutes, while shooting 50.9 percent from the field and 78.6 percent from the foul line in 73 games (27 starts) for the Portland Trail Blazers. He scored in double-figures 16 times and grabbed 10-plus rebounds seven times.
Howard, who will wear #5 for the HEAT, was originally drafted with the fifth pick in the 1994 NBA Draft by the Washington Wizards. He spent six-plus seasons in Washington before being traded to the Dallas Mavericks in a mid-season trade during the 2000-01 season. He was then sent to Denver the following season before signing with the Orlando Magic as a free agent during the 2003-04 season. He was acquired by the Houston Rockets during the 2004-05 season and spent three seasons there, before making stops in Dallas (2007-08), Minnesota (Summer of 2007), Denver (2008) and Charlotte (2008-09). He signed with Portland as a free agent in 2009 and spent one season there, before signing with the HEAT as a free agent.

When your comment needs to be viewed for 30 seconds in order for the reader to figure out the meaning, and even THEN it’s unclear, you’ve got problems with your written communication.

veteran players who only care about winning

solid pick up but still not addressing the guards which is what makes me nervous. The rotation needs at least one more shooting guard or point guard and I would assume that Jason Williams and Eddie House are in the discussion.

The guards? Well…Lebron will run PG. Chalmers will come off the bench. Wade will be 2. Probably pick up J Will.

chalmers is starting, not coming off the bench. Lebron will spend alot of time running point but he wont be our starting pg. at least not to open the season

Juwan will be another great addition to the club with his veteran leadership and his locker room presence. Kudos to misters Riley and Arison.

Juan Howard has only outscored his yearly opponent once in the 22 seasons he played. (ORtg vs. DRtg) Hopefully Alonzo & MIA coaches teach D.

…just because he’s going to Miami doesn’t mean his name’s changed to Juan (spanish for John); it’s still Juwan.

@shawn
probably. i’ve stopped replying to monmon’s posts on that Matt Barnes, Raja, et al article. it just doesn’t make sense. the person is not directly answering our counter rebuttals. his replies are not based on issues but based on personality attacks and name callings. and if it’s true that he keeps changing his name, that means he can’t defend his views and what he stands for – a sign of a person who is a coward. all he can do is bully all day speaking nonsense.

yah he cant
funny i wrote that earlier on the raja bell commment
Now we if we can just get our hands on another 3 point shooter, preferably someone who is a PG… Eddie House anyone?

Our frontcourt is LOADED with bodies now. We have a solid mix of 7 footers (Big Z and Big Cat Magloire) shot blockers (Joel the Barbarian Shot Blocker) and savy veterans (Haslem, Chris Bosh and Juwan Howard)….this is going to be one hell of a year folks. I predict a 70-12 record and a world championship this year. Who’s with me ?

yes it will
do we really care?
no
makes us happy
Does anybody know how good spoelstra is on offense? Because if he just runs a wade or lebron iso on every play, like mike brown did, this team isn’t winning a title.
[Reply]
Joe I don’t think he’s that dumb, isos will occur on some plays obviously but I’d say we’ll see bron or Wade drawing the double team and getting 1 or the other to move off the ball along with bosh to get them 1 on 1.

yes, i’m expecting this will be pure entertainment.
the teams would have a hard time deciding who are they gonna double team. we have lots of offensive options.
it would be interesting what kind of D other teams will plan to stop the three.

exactly. during the 2010 finals with the celtics, it was shown in the camera that he is asking phil jackson to personally guard someone in boston who is having a freaking good shooting that night, i just forgot who it was.
with the HEAT, maybe he will ask jackson that he will just personally guard wade and lebron on his own. since Kobe is a ball hogger, he might also want to do all the defending by himself. LMAO!
Sorry guys can’t reply to ur msgs cause use my iPhone and it won’t let me for some reason?? Anyway…
@big3 this year is going to b amazing and it’s going to b an absolute nightmare for opposing teams, the scary thing Is if lebron is on fire and bosh is playing well and Wade is having a poor night then defences have to double bron and bosh and single Wade, eventually playing Wade 1 on 1 will b disastrous as he is 2 good to b off for an entire night especially when only facing the 1 defender
@Shawn, that’s a great point, Kobe won’t b able allowed to settle against the one defender and will b constantly b given different looks, they are also great help defenders so when one of them is resting on artest (can’t drive, can barely finish above the rim, poor shooter) they can roam and double Kobe (expect another 6 for 24 performance if those 2 double him) or sag down and help bosh against pau
this year will b scary, we’ve all seen how good bostons big 3, and that was with out players no where near the level of Wade and lebron, our 3rd option is bosh, that’s insane. Can’t wait to hear all the haters clutching at straws and blaming the refs for getting blown out by 40
[Reply]
Heat need J-will not Arroyo. I hope still can get T-mac to back up Wade!!!
[Reply]
Nooooo trust me we don’t want tmac, he will b injured for the entire year, he still thinks he’s as good as lebron and dwade and will demand playing time and shots, he will b a cancer in the locker room. Completley agree with on the jwill side of things tho, he’s a better player and a better 3 point shooter, i think eddy house would even b better aswell.
It looks like the heat are really trying to keep members of last years time to make the transition into next year smoother and help keep the locker room together. I’d say the 2nd and 3rd option for pg is Wade and lebron anyway so we arent in desperate need for an amazing back up pg anyway
[Reply]
News say Arroyo was confirmed sign with heat and he is Chalmers back up, where’s J-will?!
