Miami Heat re-sign Shavlik Randolph

The Heat have signed their 14th player this offseason. Apparently this contract is only partially guaranteed (there can be upwards of 20 players in training camp before the final 15 are set). Here is the official press release:

The Miami HEAT announced today that they have re-signed free agent forward Shavlik Randolph. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Randolph has appeared in 95 career NBA games (seven starts), averaging 2.4 points, 2.4 rebounds and 8.3 minutes while shooting 44.7 percent from the field. He appeared in six games for the HEAT and Portland Trail Blazers during the 2009-10 season, and averaged 2.3 points and 2.3 rebounds in 8.8 minutes.

The Duke University alum was previously signed by the HEAT as a free agent on September 28, 2009 and after appearing in two games, was later waived on December 14, 2009. He was then signed by Portland on December 30, 2009, appearing in three games for the Trail Blazers and was waived on January 6, 2010. Portland then signed Randolph to a 10-day contract on January 8. He re-signed with the HEAT on April 6, 2010.

Wish they would sign Louis Amundson from Phoenix instead, he’s a far superior PF/C who can probablye e had for the veteran’s minimum…

Wish they would have brought in Kenny Hasbrouk (spelling?)

Although Ira is reporting this seems to be more of a courtesy signing than anything. Perhaps, as Surya has suggested, the Heat will bring Kenny in for training camp.

Relax, Randolph probably won’t survive training camp. Regardless, does it even matter? Somebody has to sit in a suit behind the bench.

If someone has to sit in a suit behind the bench…I’ll gladly volunteer. Hell, I’ll even take a pay cut, perhaps the rookie minimum?

Are you 6’10″ like Randolph?

Surya Fernandez Reply:

Just want to point out that he worked hard in the Summer League. I saw him play heavy minutes and he held his own. I think he earned a place in training camp but the Heat should have some options there to pick the final roster spots.

Nah…I’m 5’7″ but that actually works to my advantage as it will give the fans behind me a better view of the court…aside from my stunning suit.

Surya Fernandez Reply:

I’ll put in a good word for you.
