Eddie House to rejoin the Miami Heat, McGrady next?

Pat Riley and the Miami Heat have done it again. Eddie House, former Heat player and fan favorite, will be coming back to Miami and is exactly what the fans have been asking for: a tough, combo guard who has shooting range.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports has the scoop:

After completing the greatest free-agent coup in NBA history, Miami Heat president Pat Riley continues to surround Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh with strong complementary talent.

The Heat have reached an agreement with 32-year-old guard Eddie House on a two-year contract for $2.8 million, his agent, Mark Bartelstein, told Yahoo! Sports on Thursday. The second year of the deal is a player option for $1.4 million.

Miami beat out the Chicago Bulls to get House. With a history of clutch shooting that includes multiple big games with the Boston Celtics over the past three years, House will help support Miami’s starry core off the bench.

He also will give the Heat a well-regarded three-point shooter, with 749 treys made in his career at a nearly 40 percent conversion rate.

House played his first three NBA seasons (2000-03) with the Heat before joining eight teams over the next seven years. After playing nearly three seasons for the Celtics, House was traded to the New York Knicks as part of a package for Nate Robinson during the 2009-10 campaign.

The Heat are still weighing the possibility of signing free agent Tracy McGrady, league sources said.

Do I smell fear? The only reason Kobe is winning championships is because he has alstars on his team and little is said about it because they’re winning…winning shuts everyone up.

When Kobe didn’t have all stars on his team.Guess what? They sucked.Now their great with all these all stars on the team.In order to compete with them your not just going to beat them with LeBron on the Cavs by himself.MJ wouldn’t have done anything without Pippen.You need help in order to win a Championship.

what allstars u mean allstar the only one other kobe to make the allstar team is P. gasol , lamar odom never made an allstar team artest made it once on indiana but he’S NOT AN ALLSTAR ANYMORE KOBE HAS ONE ALLSTAR ON THE TEAM AN THATS GASOL SO FOR YOU GUYS Syin he plays with a bunch of allstars is false

LAC Reply:

I completely agree. Kobe is one of the most overrated players in the league. At the beginning of his career Shaq carried him and the rest of the Lakers to 3 championships. After he left they sucked and Kobe started crying. Then they spoon fed them Paul Gasol and Artest signs for the mid-level exception. They did the same thing the Heat are doing now just in a different manner. I mean cmon: Kobe, Gasol, Odom, Artest, Bynum. And let’s not forget the most underrated PG Fisher,which Kobe new best not to let him go to the Heat or theyd be fu*ked. Not to mention they just signed Matt Barnes.

Shinwar Reply:

I have no hate towards the Lakers because it takes a lot of leadership from the coaching staff to be able to handle a team with that much talent. You’ve gotta admit that without his supporting cast of near alstars or alstars, Kobe wouldn’t be winning championships. So to criticize LeBron, Wade and Bosh for teaming up is a lame excuse for envy. The days of one player making everyone else better are over. Kobe needs his teamates more than Jordan ever needed just one or two people. Once Jordan’s cast left the Bulls, they practically fell off the face of the planet. These days, players have to team up to win championships. For now, I commend LeBron, Wade and Bosh for teaming up at a young age but it’s yet to be seen if they can play together.

I like the signing. Solid move again by Riles.

As far as McGrady goes, for the same reason the Heat passed on Shaq, they should DEFINITELY pass on McGrady. You can see from his interviews of late, he’s the worst of the three big names left on the market (McGrady, AI, and Shaq) when it comes to accepting a lesser role.

It sounded like he had an opening with significant minutes off the bench waiting for him in Chicago but he just couldn’t see it that way. Every report I’m reading has him intimating that he still wants to start, and more than that, he wants to be a focal point. I dont know about everyone else, but I sure as hell don’t want to see that. Wouldnt mind him coming off the bench for 15 minutes a night on this team, but that is IT.

3 Mike { 07.29.10 at 1:02 pm }

I still would not mind a Jason Williams return to Miami

[Reply]

4 Dan { 07.29.10 at 1:05 pm }

I think signing McGrady would be A REAL GOOD MOVE! Especially for the minimum. Mainly because it gives us the best bench(on paper) in the league, we would have the option to rest Wade, James and Bosh at the same time while still having a REAL GOOD scorer on the floor! His character will not affect the team, as far as him wanting to start, my question is WHO DOESNT? And if he does act up, he could EASILY be traded because of the fact that he signed for the minimum.

[Reply]

Jay Reply:

Dan, I agree with your point about “who doesnt want to start?” but I think there’s a difference between wanting to start but willing to come off the bench and only wanting to start. His interviews following the Chicago and Clipper work outs all sounded like he saw himself as a starter and would have a problem to some degree with coming off the bench. And by that logic, and for the same reason the Heat passed on a couple other players, I personally would pass on picking him up if that’s really how he still sees himself. I know a player has to be confident, but he’s also got to be realistic.

Apparently he had a great workout in Chicago but the reports are saying he stunk up the interview when they started talking about his role on the team versus what he wanted his role to be. Of the three big names out there, he is the one who is probably most recently removed from being highly productive and I think he’s still got to adjust his mindframe.

If he could accept the lesser role, I agree, he’d be a fantastic addition off the bench…I just don’t think he’d accept it and that would ultimately lead to a problem.

If anything has been clear about the Heat’s signings outside of the Miami Thrice, its that they want character guys who are not going to rock the boat or put their needs first. McGrady does not qualify by that standard in my opinion.

[Reply]

Dan Reply:

i agree, but like i said, ” if he does act up, he could EASILY be traded” without his recognition! but if his character is already like that, then that basically means he’s simply not coming to Miami and that theres no need to discuss him. lol.

[Reply]

Chris Reply:

Sorry Dan but i dont see how you think we can easily trade Mcgrady away when hes already being turned away by every other team in the league…

Milton Reply:

well first of all if he comes to the heat he has to know that he not the 2 or3 on the team D wade and Bron so he would have no choice really but to talk a different role. In Chicago he though he was the best two they had to offer and felt that he should start i really don’t see him having the problem in Miami

T-Mac want have a problem backing up Wade, because he knows Wade is a better player then he is. On the other hand the Bulls and Clippers have shooting guards that he fill are less talented then he is, and that’s why he see’s himself as a starter on those teams. And he might be wright.

[Reply]

Jay Reply:

You make a good point about his perception of the Clippers and Bulls roster at his position versus his perception of his place on this roster with Wade and LeBron playing in front of him.

I guess that’s actually my concern. See, I don’t think at this stage in his career he is better than any of the primary wing/perimeter players on the Bulls or Clippers, yet HE thinks he is judging by his comments.

I’d take the following guys over him either based on age, skill, personality (ability to play a specific role) or all three components:

Eric Gordon
Luol Deng
Ronnie Brewer
Kyle Korver
Ryan Gomes

Starters: Bench:
Chalmers Arroyo
Wade Eddie
LeBron Miller
Bosh UD
Big Z Joel (Flip Flop doesn’t matter)

Other Reserves:
Juwan Howard
Deter Pittman
Jamaal Magloire
James Jones

BTW, if some of you didn’t know to answer that question Randolph & Hasbrouck contracts are not guaranteed ..

[Reply]

Colin Reply:

Isn’t it great how our 2nd string could very well be a starting line up on another team?

In regards to T-Mac, I’m not too keen on the Heat signing him. However, if they did, he would need to take a page out of UD’s book and relegate a bench role. Sure when Beas was traded UD came out and said it was the hardest thing for him to do (come off the bench) But regardless of his comments, he did it and is more than willing to do it again without causing drama or tension.

IF, and thats a big IF, Mac is capable of doing something like that, I suppose it could be a decent experiment.

[Reply]

Rick Reply:

I was totally against this at first but have completely changed heart why not bring in AI?

[Reply]

Jay Reply:

I think they’ll pass on AI for the same reason they’re hesitant to sign McGrady and didn’t even consider Shaq. They’re concerned with any personalities that might rival the big 3 or rock the boat. It’s an understandable concern, and I don’t see them making the exception with McGrady.

[Reply]

Chris Reply:

AI is a terrible idea hes gone into every locker room for the past five years and screwed it up… Not only is he a cancer to the locker room but riles isnt going to sign a PG who wont pass the ball, while his defense would be great for the team thats about all that would be…

[Reply]

15 J. Luft { 07.29.10 at 5:47 pm }

With no draft picks for a few years, the Heat should develop rookies like Hasbrouck, Pittman and Butler / Varnado. With inevitable injuries, promising players like Randolph could get some time as well. Going against the big three every practice would accelerate their growth and provide them stellar mentors. I would like to see the minutes for the big 3 managed carefully as post season is a lock and there is no need to push them too hard (Wade’s problem the past couple years).

[Reply]

16 Joseph { 07.29.10 at 7:43 pm }

Eddie House was an awesome pickup, but I still don’t think we’ve got a true SG behind Wade. I know both Miller and House can fill that role, but I’d still like to see McGrady in that backup spot assuming he can accept the role off the bench and not be a distraction in the locker room. Let’s face it, the BIG 3 will have an issue at one point or another just as any locker room in any sport does. Whether it be an arguement over the game plan or someone bitching about a loss, it’s gonna happen. I have no doubt they will work through it just as the Bulls of the 90′s worked through Dennis Rodman’s on and off bickering with Jordan. However, with the amount of ego already on tap for the Heat, players like McGrady and AI might prove to be a little too much to bear if they can’t curve their attitude a bit. T-Mac does have a massive upside if he’s healthy though, so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

OMG!!! Shawn tweeted this to me – the signing of eddie house with the heat. I was so happy! I told him house is a good perimeter shooter and he helped boston in 2008.
In particular, house helped boston recover from a 24-point deficit in Game 4 of the finals vs the lakers. He made clutch points together with james posey and the rest of boston to come up and win Game 4 at the homecourt of lakers, posting a commanding 3-1 lead in the series.
Excuse me again laker fans who might get hurt with this news, it’s bad news for you.
Do you also know that boston fans are clamoring for the return of eddie house in boston when they were not satisfied with the performance of nate?
Great news indeed, GO HEAT!!!

GREAT pick up because more three point guards were a MUST after the other pick ups. Riley did an excellent job. This completed roster is way better than I could have ever imagined. This team will not only have the best starting lineup in the NBA but a very deep bench as well. I know people dont want to believe it yet because this team hasn’t proved anything yet, but assuming no serious injuries to the big names, 6 str8 championships and I’m not just being bias. The Celtics are basically in their last year of greatness now and I give the Lakers 2 years considering Kobe Bryant’s age. Orlando will be tough, as well as Chicago. The only team that can truly become scary in years to come will be the Thunder. Durant WILL have a better team each year and his skills will excel to another level because of age. Other than that, nothing can stop this Heat team and the only way that happens is in the first year or two if the Lakers squeak one out.

Hey lets face it no one wins it all without help. Now heres a fact many of us so called NBA fans forget. CAVS vs SPURS for the Nba title.. humm ring a bell. Now remember Lebron (pretty much alone) defeated the power in the east at the time the Pistons. Note this is before the MO no show and Shaq era. So no think about this…… did Jordan or Kobe make it to a nba finals without SHAQ or PIPEN the answer to that is .. no.

[Reply]

27 Riq80 { 07.31.10 at 12:39 am }

I agree Polar, but thats not the point. Miami Heat Haters like Jon Barry and Mike Wilbon have to find a way to make our team look bad. Both are Chicago fans, so instead of being real NBA insiders they say that LeBron made the wrong choice by coming to play with D-Wade and Bosh in Miami. Had they all gone to Chicago they would both be as giddy as school girls. Neither had a real NA reason why the Heat couldn’t build around these 3 guy’s so they just started hating as hard as they could. Heat hating fans have to do the samething. Instaed of being real fans of the game they come on here talking about “our 3hogs” and all that nonsense. With this roster no one can talk shit at all. Riles proved all the Heat haters wrong and got strong backups for our team.

I guess this means that you don’t watch Heat games… I’m a huge B-easy fan but he would not have worked in Miami. He doesn’t play D and is extremely inconsistant. I remember watching him score 19 in the first half of a game and then score 7 for the rest of the game. He loves to go for layups when he should dunk which in turn gets his shots blocked. Beasley will become a great player but I rather have Mike Miller in his place. I wasn’t happy when we got rid of him but now that I see our roster I feel great. Plus you have to take into account that he could selfdistruct like he did last year. If that happens he will be good for nothing….
