After the Miami Heat trounced the Orlando Magic 118-85 Sunday at home, the intra-state rivals will hit the hardwood in Orlando Wednesday for both teams' final preseason game. Some questioned Dwight Howard's engagement in the previous game -- he did finish with five points and six rebounds against Joel Anthony, Dexter Pittman and Chris Bosh -- and he will have a chance to silent the critics tonight. ESPN Radio's John Ireland said Dec. 19 that a source told him that the Magic could trade the league's best center to the New Jersey Nets this week, but nothing appears imminent right now.
On the Heat front, Shane Battier (quad) and Eddy Curry (hip flexor) will not play; Mike Miller (sports hernia) and Eddie House (shoulder surgery) are also out. While Battier needs to form chemistry with the Heat -- he is expected to emerge as a rotation player -- it is best for him to wait until his injury is completely healed. Camp invitees Terrel Harris and Derrick Byars may be happy that Battier won't play; the two former D-League players are competing for a roster spot. If the Heat retain Curry, who has a non-guaranteed contract this season, the team would only have one spot for either Harris or Byars. Harris scored 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting and Byars finished with 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting in Sunday's game.
