Second year point guard Norris Cole received some good news during training camp today when the Miami Heat announced that they were invoking their Rookie Scale Option for a third year on his first NBA contract.

The Heat also hold a team option for the 2014/15 season and there can also be a qualifying offer of just over three million dollars for his fifth season in the NBA in 2015/16.

Cole appeared in 65 games (two starts) with the HEAT last season and averaged 6.8 points, 2.0 assists, 1.4 rebounds and 19.4 minutes. Among rookie league leaders, he finished 17th in scoring average, tied for 11th in assists per game and eighth in free throw percentage (.776). He appeared in 19 postseason games during Miami's championship run and averaged 1.8 points in 8.9 minutes of action.

Saving his best for last after an up-and-down rookie season, the young rookie was superb in Game 4 of the NBA Finals when he scored eight points in eight minutes (including two three-pointers) to help the Heat make a comeback from an early 17-point deficit and eventually take a commanding 3-1 lead.
