Warriors Vs Heat 2012: Gametime, Preview, and More

Ezra Shaw

The Warriors come down to South Florida looking to build a five game winning streak. Their target: The defending NBA Champion Miami Heat.

The Miami Heat will be hosting the Golden State Warrirors at 7:30 at the American Airlines Arena in South Beach. Tonight will mark the first of two contests this season, and the only time they will play in Miami. They'll face each other again on January 16th at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, CA.

The Heat will be playing in their fourth game of a six game homestand. They opened up the stand with a 112-92 loss to the New York Knicks, followed by consecutive victories over the New Orleans Hornets, 106-90, and a nine point affair over the Atlanta Hawks. They'll conclude their homestand against the Washington Wizards, and the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Warriors will be playing in the fifth game of a seven game road odyssey. They were victorious through the first four, defeating the Detroit Pistons and Brooklyn Nets by seven each, the Washington Wizards by four, and the Charlotte Bobcats by eight on Monday night. Before returning home, they'll finish up the trek against the Orlando Magic and the Atlanta Hawks.

These two last met on January 10th in South Florida. The 8-1 Heat were looking for their fourth straight win, while the 2-6 Warriors were trying to avoid their sixth straight setback. Here's an excerpt from the NBA.COM recap:

Nate Robinson came off the bench to score 24 points, 17 in the fourth quarter and overtime, and the Golden State Warriors erased a 17-point deficit over the final 13:15 of regulation to beat the Miami Heat 111-106, Tuesday night. Warriors forward Dorell Wright broke out of a season-long slump to score 20 points, eight in OT, and grabbed 10 rebounds against his former team. David Lee added his fourth consecutive double-double with 20 points, 14 boards, four steals and three assists as Golden State snapped a five-game losing streak. Dwyane Wade had a season-high 34 points, six rebounds and four steals in his return from a three-game absence due to an injured left foot, but he couldn't prevent the Heat from suffering only their second loss of the season.

Golden State forward David Lee spoke about Warrior pride afterward:

"At this point, we're not in any position to fold up shop. We're just going to keep on fighting. We have no choice. We have a coaching staff that holds us accountable and we have a lot of players with a lot of pride."

The Heat as a team shot 58 percent from the field, handing the Hawks just their second loss in the past 10 games. Atlanta was able to keep it close behind the strong play of Al Horford and Josh Smith, but Miami took control late in the third quarter.
