Pistons defeat Heat 109-99

The cliche that any team can beat a team on a given night couldn't have come to fruition more clearly than the Detroit Pistons 109-99 victory over the Miami Heat on Dec. 28 at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

Will Bynum was the poster boy of this effort for the Pistons, scoring 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting with 10 assists in 28 minutes off the bench. Bynum played eight more minutes than starter Brandon Knight, and vastly outproduced him.

Charlie Villanueva, also coming off the bench, helped Bynum with 18 points. All four Pistons that came off the bench scored in double figures as they shot a blistering 58 percent from the field.

Miami was very good on offense, but had no answer for Bynum and the Pistons balanced scoring attack.

Outside of LeBron James (35 points) and Chris Bosh (28 points), the Heat only scored 36 points.

"There aren't any excuses. We had enough," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. "We just didn't play consistently enough and Detroit played a great basketball game."

The Heat, missing Dwyane Wade on a one-game suspension, snapped a six game winning streak.
