Shane Battier kicked off his "South Beach Battioke" charity event at the Eden Roc Renaissance Hotel in Miami Beach with a karaoke version of Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger". This wasn't just any karaoke performance, Battier wore quite an interesting wig and alternated between high and low pitches as his voice strained to reach the proper notes from the original. No matter, everyone in attendance was clearly amused by the performance, especially as he began doing push-ups on the stage.
Most of his Heat teammates were present (the notable exception being Chris Bosh who was celebrating his birthday with his wife and friends) as well as Heat president Pat Riley and owner Micky Arison along with his son, Heat CEO Nick Arison. LeBron James and Dwyane Wade were one of the last guests to arrive and immediately made their presence felt. Battier wasn't the only one wearing a wig, as LeBron tried on one himself as he danced joyously to the music. James Jones "won" the judged karaoke contest, as was accurately predicted by all of his teammates on the red carpet at the start of the event.
Proceeds from the event went to Battier's Take Charge Foundation, which aims to assist under-served youth who display leadership qualities by providing resources for them to get a higher education.
