The NBA released its 2012-13 schedule today, expanding on Monday's reporting of some marquee games. As the Sun-Sentinel's Ira Winderman said Monday, the Miami Heat will open the season Oct. 30 at home against the Boston Celtics, host the Oklahoma City Thunder Dec. 25 and visit the Los Angeles Lakers Jan. 17, Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Miami will go on a six-game road trip in November, including meetings against Memphis, the Los Angeles Clippers and Denver, where Dwyane Wade has never won a game (outside of the 2005 All-Star Game). The Heat's visit to Denver comes on the second night of a back-to-back, as it usually winds up as.
The Heat then have a six-game home-stand in December, with some teams that made it to the lottery visiting South Beach. LeBron James and Company head back out on the road in January for another six-game trip, with the Lakers game ending the West swing. February has a good balance between home and road games, but the Heat have two road trips of four games or more after the All-Star break.
We can all scour each team's schedule and speculate as to what it means, but everyone should keep in mind to keep the regular season in perspective. Some expressed concern over the Heat's stumbling road record to end the season, but Miami won at least one road game in all four of the playoff series. Many predicted the Heat couldn't get past Chicago or Boston during the 2010-11 season after Miami struggled in regular season meetings with those teams. In the regular season, Steve Novak can have a good season. But when teams play with more defensive intensity in the playoffs, opposing teams can render Novak irrelevant (sorry Knicks fans).
Here is the full 82-game schedule for the Heat:
