Looking to continue improving their backcourt, the Miami Heat have reportedly contacted Chicago Bulls free agent John Lucas III. The 29 year old has bounced in and out of the NBA since entering in 2005, playing overseas in Europe, China and the D-League.
Lucas averaged 7.5 points and 2.2 assists for the Bulls last season but was used a 3rd point guard option behind Derrick Roseand C.J. Watson. Lucas's interactions with the Miami Heat last season were interesting to say the least. Lucas torched the Heat for a season high 24 points in a stunning victory without Derrick Rose and found himself right in the middle of an oncourt altercation and candidate for dunk of the year with LeBron James.
On Sunday afternoon, Raja Bell told the Salt Lake Tribune that he had reached a verbal agreement with the Utah Jazz for a buyout of his 2012-2013 contract. Yahoo Sports is reporting that both the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat are expressing interest in the 35 year old veteran.
Raja Bell played just 39 games, averaging 6.4 points on 47% shooting with the Jazz and was sidlined for the remainder of the season with a knee injury. Bell might be looking to return to his hometown, having played high school and college basketball in Miami, but with the Heat already under contract with Ray Allen and Shane Battier, the acquisition of another veteran wing may not be feasible.
With 3 roster spots remaining for the Miami Heat, limited sign and trade assets and cap space, it remains to be seen what moves get made in the near future.
