Heat final score: Without Rondo, Celtics outlast Miami in double OT

Miami wasn't sharp playing against a desperate, wounded Boston Celtics team. Turning the ball over 21 times, the Heat failed to close out the Celtics despite late leads in both overtime sessions.

Playing against a desperate Boston Celtics team in a six-game losing streak, the Miami Heat looked a bit. The Heat weren't mailing it in, but Miami players were a little too careless with the basketball and stagnant offensively. The game went back-and-forth for much of the second half, and LeBron James drilled a clutch 3 to tie the game with seven seconds left in regulation. And although the Heat held a four-point lead with two minutes left in the first overtime and a three-point lead with a minute left in the second, Boston executed well on both ends after falling behind. Shane Battier was forced into a deep 3 as time expired that hit nothing but air.

Rajon Rondo was a late scratch from the game, and a trip to a Boston hospital revealed that he tore his ACL and is out for the season. Rondo's injury overshadowed this game, however dramatic. Boston is just 21-23 and just lost the head of its snake. A hard-fighting Celtics can beat Miami with Dwyane Wade struggling offensively, but it's hard to see the Celtics making a move up in the standings without the best player.

Wade shot just 6-of-20 from the field and turned the ball over six times. He also missed a running floater with 37 seconds left in the second overtime -- a shot he usually makes -- that would have put Miami up three. Despite scoring 34 points and grabbing 16 boards in 52 minutes, James missed a few shots at the rim -- both early and late. For his part, Chris Bosh played extremely well and finished with 16 points and 16 boards, making a few crucial tip-outs for second-chance points, including the shot to send it into overtime. Ray Allen scored 21 points in his return to Boston, but missed six 3s and two free-throws.
