Heat escape with 112-107 victory over Pistons, improve to 2-0 in the preseason

Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports

Chris Bosh once again leads the Heat and the reserves once again squander a late lead in the fourth quarter.

For those not present in Detroit, we can only imagine just how masterfully efficient Chris Bosh was en route to 28 points with 12-16 shooting to lead the Miami Heat to a 112-107 victory over the Pistons.

With no television coverage, this game still followed the same script as their Monday win over the Atlanta Hawks in the opening game of the preseason. Once again, Bosh had his way with the opposing team's defense with 19 points in his first 16 minutes. None of the other starters scored in double-figures, which included Norris Cole replacing Mario Chalmers. LeBron James again wasn't seeking his own shot too much, but was content connecting on precision passing to Bosh and getting his All-Star teammate easy buckets.

Returning to action was Dwyane Wade in 21 minutes of action, scoring 8 points along with 4 rebounds and 4 assists.

James Jones went 4 of 6 from 3-point range for 12 points off the bench. Michael Beasley made his first three shots and scored 9 points in his first four minutes of play. Of the newcomers, Justin Hamilton impressed yet again in limited minutes with 8 points, including a late game corner three-pointer and 4 rebounds.

The Pistons managed to chip away at a Heat double-digit lead in the fourth quarter, just like the Hawks did against the Heat reserves. As they did on Monday, the Heat did just enough to escape with the victory in the closing moments of the game. For some reason Will Bynum played 46 minutes in what is basically an exhibition game but he did lead the Pistons with 28 points, 6 assists and 7 turnovers. Andre Drummond had a solid game with 21 points and 11 rebounds, 6 of them on offense.

While the Heat won, it was still a bit troubling that the team was out-rebounded 55 to 29 with no one grabbing more than four boards. Then again, it's the preseason and plenty of minutes are going to other players besides the core rotation. Bosh continues to impress but Erik Spoelstra may limit his minutes tomorrow night along with the starters. Five players from Monday's game did not play tonight, though they may be called to action when the Heat play tomorrow night in Kansas City against the Charlotte Bobcats.
