Preview: Celtics hope to stop Heat's run at history

5 years ago today, the Boston Celtics ended the Houston Rockets' 22 game win streak. Will they halt Miami's streak tonight, or allow the Heat to stand alone as 2nd all-time?

"It's a special ride right now that we're on," LeBron James said. "The best thing about it is we're doing it together."

The Miami Heat hope to move past the 2007-08 Rockets and be 2nd all-time with a 23 game win steak. If they are going to do it, they will have to beat their fiercest rival, the Boston Celtics.

Five years ago, the eventual champion Celtics, halted the Rockets' 22 game win streak, and Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett get the same opportunity tonight in Boston. The Heat realed off another victory with a dominant fourth quarter in Toronto on Sunday afternoon. Ray Allen scored 16 points in the final quarter to lead Miami to a victory, and he will return to Boston tonight for the 2nd time this season as a visitor.

The Heat lost to the Celtics on January 27th in Boston, the same day the Celtics found out that Rajon Rondo would miss the rest of the season. That game went into double OT in Allen's return. The Celtics are 5-0 at home in the regular season against Miami since LeBron James joined the Heat.

The Celtics will be rested as well. They didn't play on Sunday, as Miami did, and Pierce has played under 25 minutes the past two games, while Garnett sat out the last game as well. Boston is 16-6 since Rondo's injury.

This will be one of the Heat's biggest challenges to their winning streak because Boston always plays them tough and with passion. If Miami is going to win, they will need contributions from their bench, and Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh will need to help LeBron in the scoring column.

Paul Pierce was asked about the Heat's win streak earlier this weekend, he said, "I really don’t even care. I hope they lose every game the rest of the season."

Pierce can put his money where his mouth is tonight. It should be a great game. It starts at 8pm on ESPN.
