Dwyane Wade rounded out the week before training camp by giving back through his Wade's World Foundation.
Thursday night marked the 2nd Annual RunWade event, a fashion show with threads from Neiman Marcus Coral Gables that is complemented by a silent and live auction of one-of-a-kind finds and getaways.
The special benefit took place at The Moore Building, which is located in Miami's design district. As guests mixed and mingled amongst Miami Heat players and celebrity guests, they were treated to cocktails and hors d'oeuvres from some of Miami's finest restaurants including Eating House, EDGE at the Four Seasons, Estiatorio Milos, My Ceviche, Oak Tavern, Prime 112, Ruth Chris, The Bazaar, Tongue & Cheek, Zuma and more. Tunes were provided by the Heat's own DJ Irie.
Proceeds from the event benefit the Wade's World Foundation whose mission is to provide support in various ways to underprivileged youth and their families.
"Any time you get an opportunity to have kids excited about education, we just make sure we support that, and support them while they're excited to learn." - Dwyane Wade
On Friday night, Wade was the guest of honor at Florida Memorial University's 12th Annual Scholarship Gala at the Bonaventure Resort & Spa. Wade and his foundation worked with the school to raise scholarship funds.
Dr. Roslyn Artis, interim president of Florida Memorial University, had the following to say about the school's collaboration with Wade and his foundation to raise funds, "We are absolutely delighted to have the support and involvement of Dwyane and his Wade's World Foundation actively participating with us. . . . His presence will undoubtedly help to enhance our level of commitment and dedication for our students, and highlight the services we provide in a broad and very visible way."
The event themed "Moving Forward... The Legacy Continues," included performances by the school'sEnsemble and Chorale.
"Any time you get an opportunity to have kids excited about education, we just make sure we support that, and support them while they're excited to learn," Wade said as he arrived at the event. "I'm happy that myself and my foundation could come in and be a part of the great things that they're already doing."
Wade's World Foundation celebrated its 10th anniversary earlier this month during Wade's World Weekend in Chicago. Details on Wade's foundation can be found at www.wadesworldfoundation.org.
