The 2012 Heat second round draft day acquisition out of LSU spent last season in Europe battling injuries and switching clubs, as chronicled on Hot Hot Hoops, and was unable to play for the Heat's Summer League squad this offseason due to injury.
The 7-footer however was already training at AmericanAirlines Arena (and showing solid range from the outside) before the Summer League squad left for the Orlando tournament and has continued working out there during the summer. Now that he has just been cleared for full contact work, as he confirmed on Twitter, it looks the Heat are ready to sign him.
Fully cleared! Going to be a big week to improve!! #Heat— justin hamilton (@Justin__41) September 8, 2013
Hamilton will soon join Jarvis Varnado and undrafted forward Eric Griffin as Heat training camp invitees with un-guaranteed contracts, with the Heat at the moment at 13 players with guaranteed contracts.
The Herald's Barry Jackson also reported on one more player that could get a training camp invite from the Heat.
Undrafted rookie point guard Larry Drew Jr., from UCLA, will audition for the Heat over several days this coming week. Drew, who averaged 7.5 points and 7.3 assists for the Bruins last season, was originally supposed to play on Miami's summer league team but could not because of a quad injury.
