Recap: Heat fall to Thunder 112-95 in lopsided second half

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Although Miami started the contest fierce, they were unable to maintain their ferociousness and thus fell to the slim reaper.

It stings.

A loss, especially in a game as hyped as this one stings. The Oklahoma City Thunder fell behind 4-22 minutes into the game but mounted a comeback that the Miami Heat could not come back from for the 112-95 blowout loss at the AmericanAirlines Arena.

However it's not the end of the line for the Heat, rather a showcase of how sloppy defense can destroy a lead almost instantaneously.

In the first quarter Miami led by 18 and then Kevin Durant started chipping away, and the rest is history. The fact is, Durant has had the hot hand through 12 games and it didn't stop tonight, especially because his supporting cast showed up and helped him through it.

Regardless of Durant's dominance, Miami could not hit from beyond the arc shooting an abysmal 3-19 from beyond three point range.

There were various factors that took this game away from Miami: Durant's play, Serge Ibaka's defense, the reanimation of Derek Fisher's corpse (the zombie scored five threes).

But it's not the Thunder's sheer offensive talent that sunk Miami. The Heat allowed 25 points off turnovers and let an 18 point lead slip. This is the fourth time they've did this since the beginning of the Big Three Era.

This was a tough one, and Miami's highlights include LeBron James with a 34-point outing as well as the rest of the Big Three scoring in double figures, and Dwyane Wade looking healthy.

Nevertheless, the Heat didn't look like a championship team tonight, something almost unfamiliar to South Beach after these three years.

Final - 1.29.2014 1 2 3 4 Total
Oklahoma City Thunder 21 34 36 21 112
Miami Heat 30 20 25 20 95
