Three Stars: Miami Falls In Big Easy

We continue to use to help us understand the stats underneath the stats.

To enscapulate, has a nifty little metric called "gamescore." It is what it sounds like - a statistic which tells the fans which players had the best game. Think of it as a game-by-game Player Efficiency Rating (PER).

Last night, the HEAT couldn't hang with the Pelicans. Who was good enough to make their way onto our short list of daily heroes?

First Star: Anthony Davis

The Unibrow played 39:27 last night, hitting 13-of-22 shots for a game high 30 points. He also notched a game high 11 assists and three steals (you guessed it, a game high). The Pelicans were a robust plus-7 when Davis was not on the bench. His only block of the game was a big one, where he stopped LeBron James cold on an attempted drive to the hoop in the fourth quarter. It prevented Miami from keeping it close. Of course, the Pelicans pulled away soon afterward.

Second Star: LeBron James

The King played 41:59 last night second only to Al-Farouq Aminu's impressive 45:03. He sunk 10-of-18 shots, including half of his four three-point attempts. His sums led the HEAT with 25 points, nine dimes, and eight boards. All this without supporting castmate Dwyane Wade (precautionary) and with what we can only assume is a back problem that's getting worse and worse as the season goes on. Miami's played deep into June in each of the last three seasons, it may be starting to take a toll on the King. James also went down hard with a minute left in the third quarter, tweaking his right foot. He would stay in the game. Despite his heroics, the HEAT finished at minus-six with the chosen one - the only HEAT player with a positive plus-minus was long time big man Udonis Haslem, who tabbed a plus-3.

Third Star: Tyreke Evans

Reke played 33:59, draining seven of his 14 field goal attempts on his way to 16 points. His eight assists led the Pelicans, who also saw him pitch in with four rebounds and two steals. Evans was the only Pelican to finish with a negative plus-minus rating, a mark of minus-2.

Maybe the HEAT can put three out of three players in this article following their next contest, a home matchup with the Portland Trail Blazers. In the meantime, keep it locked in here at HHH for everything HEAT.
