Miami Heat: Very good at almost winning games that don't count...and why it really doesn't matter

Look at it this way Heat fans: at least the team isn't the Detroit Lions. Wrong sport? You bet. Random statement? Not really. You see, the infamous 2008 Detroit Lions who went 0-16 in the regular season were undefeated in the preseason. According to that logic, the Heat will go 82-0 in the regular season. Am I betting on that? Absolutely not. But I do think that there can be some conclusions drawn from the first week of not-really real action. First, Miami has the same flaws we all thought they would. A bit porous on defense. Inconsistent scoring. A particularly stinging injury bug. But they also have players who know how to climb out of a deep hole. They trailed by double-digits in their first two games. They just seem to lack the killer instinct required to either put a game away or finish a comeback. Of course, this could all boil down to it's the preseason, Dwyane Wade is nursing an injury to be sharp for games that count and a team led by Chris Quinn isn't going to finish what Wade could. Only time will tell. Two weeks and two days to be exact...
