The ever-reliable Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press is reporting what we've been waiting for: Rafer Alston has signed with the Miami Heat for the current season. According to the report, Alston cleared waivers at 6 p.m. and signed about an hour later. Per a Miami Heat press release, Pat Riley said, "We are thrilled to have Skip back in a HEAT uniform." Leave reaction here. More details to follow. UPDATE 1:50 a.m.: Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel has more on the signing, confirming Alston's getting a one-year, minimum scale contract with the team. As was to be expected. Also, Dwyane Wade's apparently pretty happy with the move:
"He's a general on the floor. He helps to lead his team...That's why veteran guys are so important in this league, because they've done it for so long."
