Mike Miller will not play in either of the two final preseason games and it looks like he'll miss a lot more time then that. During Wednesday's practice his right (shooting) hand got caught in someone's jersey, injuring his thumb pretty badly. From what I'm hearing, these kind of injuries can last anywhere from 6-weeks to several months.
He is scheduled to meet with a hand specialist sometime today, and at that point we'll have a better idea of the severity of the injury and a timetable on how much time he'll miss. Looking beyond the Heat's loss to their roster, this really sucks for Miller. He had been working his butt off all summer in preparation for the season, shooting upwards of 1,000 jumpers a day.
With Miller out, this will mean more playing time for James Jones and Eddie House. Jones has been shooting very well during the preseason, and the Heat will get House back from a shoulder injury tonight in Atlanta. Both will be relied on to come off the bench and provide an outside shooting threat to fill the void left by Miller's absence.
