Heat rookie Dexter Pittman assigned to Sioux Falls Skyforce

Heat rookie Dexter Pittman has been sent down to the NBA Developmental League to the Sioux Falls Skyforce, according to Ethan J. Skolnick of the Palm Beach Post.
"That’s the whole purpose of me going, to get some game situations up under me," Pittman said. "I’ve put in a lot of hard work but it’s not right just to throw me out there with the big guys yet. Even though I’m physically ready. I’ve got to go there and get mentally ready and IQ wise."
The Heat have five centers with Joel Anthony, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Jamaal Magloire and newcomer Erick Dampier rounding out the roster. Pittman was a regular in the inactive list and he's still about 10 or 15 pounds away from his target weight of 275. I had asked him earlier this month if the coaching staff had brought up the possibility of playing in the Developmental League and he said that they hadn't so obviously this was brought about because of the Dampier signing but this is a win-win for both the player and the team. Getting some competitive play and some experience should help the young man out tremendously in order to expedite his growth. Lord knows the Heat could use him sooner rather than later.
