After the Heat's amazing run during the month of December, the NBA is recognizing and rewarding what's happening in Miami. Erik Spoelstra was named the NBA's coach of the month while Dwyane Wade and LeBron James were named co-Players of the Month for December.
Spoelstra seemed like the obvious choice for Coach of the Month after leading the Heat to a 15-1 record and taking them to the top of the Eastern Conference. It's quite the turnaround for Spo, who found himself being pushed out the door by fans and media after the Heat's 9-8 start. He's the 3rd Miami Heat coach to win the honor; Pat Riley won it five times during his tenure as Heat coach and Stan Van Gundy won it three times.
As for Wade and James, they became the first teammates since 1989 to average more then 25 points per game and shoot over 50% from the field during the same month. This is the 16th time that LeBron has won the honor and the 6th for Wade. As an added bonus, Wade was also named NBA Player of the Week for last week, which isn't a surprise considering his back-to-back 40-point games.
