In a move to trim the Heat's roster down to the league maximum of 15 players, the team has waived forward Derrick Byars. Byars scored 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting against the Orlando Magic Sunday, but scored just three in the rematch. The 6-foot-7 Byars was also a longshot to make the team considering Miami's plethora of wings.
Miami still has 16 players under contract, with guard Terrel Harris and center Mickell Gladness remaining as camp invitees. The Heat's pursuit of free agent center Kyrylo Fesenko may hinder Gladness' chances of making the team, but perhaps the Heat's glut at the wings could force Harris out.
