Jamaal Magloire To Sign With Raptors

Jamaal Magloire

Although free agents cannot sign contracts until Dec. 9 at 2 p.m., numerous outlets have already reported where several free agents intend to sign. According to TSN Sports, Jamaal Magloire has agreed to a one-year contract with the Toronto Raptors.

Magloire, a Canadian, spent the past three seasons with the Heat, appearing most frequently during the 2008-09 season, when he played in 55 games and started 12. His role gradually declined, though, after the Heat traded for Jermaine O’Neal in February 2009 and Joel Anthony emerged as the backup. He only appeared in 18 games last year, standing behind Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Anthony and Erick Dampier in the center rotation. Yet the former Kentucky Wildcat was known as a good teammate among the Heat players and a nice guy among local journalists. Plus, he did have this pretty sweet highlight during the 2011 Eastern Conference Finals.

Now with Ilgauskas (retirement) and Magloire gone from the team, Miami will have a significantly different center rotation than it had last season; Dampier probably won’t return as well. In the meantime, we will all have to wait until Dec. 9 to see how Pat Riley re-tools the roster.
