MIAMI, FLThe NBA announced today that HEAT forward James Jones will participate in the Foot Locker Three-Point Shootout at the 2011 NBA All-Star Saturday Night event in Los Angeles at the STAPLES Center on February 19. Jones, who currently ranks 14th in NBA three-point accuracy at 42.7 percent, will become the fifth HEAT player to be represented in the event, joining Daequan Cook (2009 & 2010), Jason Kapono (2007), Glen Rice (1991 & 1995) and Jon Sundvold (1989 & 1990). Cook won the competition in 2009, Kapono captured the title in 2007 and Rice won the event in 1995. Players will compete in a two-round competition with the top three finishers from the first round advancing to the finals. Five shooting stations will be set up around the three-point line, with four orange balls worth one point each and one multi-colored ball (money ball) worth two points at each location. Each player will have one minute to shoot as many balls as he can. In the final round, players will shoot in each ascending order of first round scores. At the discretion of the referee, television instant replay may be consulted for clarification of rules compliance. Jones, currently in his seventh year in the league, has already connected on 91 three-point field goals this season, tying his second-highest single-season career total. In addition to appearing in all 51 games for the HEAT this season, Jones is out-shooting his previous career averages, averaging 42.6 percent (.398 career FG percentage) from the field, 42.7 percent (.395 career 3FG percentage) from three-point range and 88.6 percent (.861 career FT percentage) from the foul line. Other invitees joining Jones include Ray Allen, Kevin Durant, Daniel Gibson, Paul Pierce and Dorell Wright.
