I'm sure you have heard about the Alonzo Mourning situation that occurred a few days ago in the wee hours of the morning. From what I've gathered, there was an accident that occurred before Zo was on the scene, but when he arrived his car collided with one of the cars that was involved in the accident. Zo stopped to check and make sure everyone was ok. He then continued to his home, calling Florida Highway Patrol on his way, who advised him to return to the scene, which he did.
According to the attorney representing the driver whose car was hit by Mourning, they are saying that Zo acted negligently by leaving the scene and failing to assist the victim. Apparently the 21 year-old was ‘disabled and disfigured' in the accident, and is now seeking monetary damages. The authorities meanwhile are not charging Zo in the accident at this point.
There is still an ongoing investigation because there are a lot of questions that have not yet been answered. Some of those questions are being asked publicly by the 21-year old victims attorney, and here is what he had to say:
"This is not a witch hunt. We know that Alonzo Mourning is a respected and well-loved member of the community. But we have questions. One is, why did Mr. Mourning leave the scene of this accident? How and why did he leave the scene of the accident without calling fire-rescue or calling the police? Mr. Mourning will have to answer those questions."
Zo has been pretty open about answering questions regarding the incident. He's doing several interviews this week because his annual ‘Zo's Summer Groove' is this weekend. One of those interviews was on 790 The Ticket with Dan LeBatard, and I've posted the audio for you to hear. Think what you like, but I have a feeling this story is going to get a bit more interesting as the information comes out.
(I'm trying to hold back from spewing out my opinion before we know all, or at least more of the facts. We are big Zo fans in my home and I feel I'd be a bit bias. We'll see what ends up happening)
