The official Miami Heat Twitter account announced that the team has sent Dexter Pittman to Miami's D-League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce. Erik Spoelstra said he sent the third-year center there because Miami's upcoming schedule offers little practice time. Pittman played for the Skyforce during his rookie season.
This decision is somewhat surprising. Pittman didn't spend any of last year in the Developmental League, and the lockout-shortened season allowed only a few practices throughout the whole year. While Pittman seems like a hard worker, a plodding, lumbering center simply doesn't fit in with this team. It's difficult to envision him ever cracking the Heat rotation.
