For the second year in a row, the winner of the Defensive Player of the Year Award was not named to the first-team NBA all-defensive roster. Marc Gasol of the Memphis Grizzlies beat out the Heat's LeBron James earlier this year for the award, and was named to the second-team. Last year, it was Tyson Chandler winning the award and being named to the second-team.
The reason? The coaches vote on these teams. LeBron James earned first-team honors for the 5th time in his career. James also finished second to Tony Allen in the overall weighted voting by the coaches as he received one more second-team vote than James.
Joining LeBron on the first-team is Tyson Chandler and Joakim Noah who tied at center in the position-by-position voting, along with Tony Allen, Serge Ibaka and Chris Paul. The second-team consisted of Marc Gasol, Tim Duncan, Paul George, Mike Conley and Avery Bradley.
This year, LeBron lead the Heat in total steal and rebounds and second in blocks. Dwyane Wade and Shane Battier both received recognition for second-team votes with 2 each. No other Heat players received any votes.
|2012 - LeBron James||26.8||8.0||7.3|
This was just another representation of the great player that LeBron James is, who received his fourth MVP award just a week ago. And soon, we expect to hear him announced to the first-team All-NBA team.
LeBron faces off against fellow first-team player Joakim Noah in Game 4 in Chicago.
