June 3, 2013: For the past few months in Miami it seemed whenever HEAT fans weren't yelling "Let’s Go HEAT, " they were posting and hashtagging and reminding themselves to "Live Like Bella." It's on highway catwalks, schoolyard fences, cars decals and wristbands. Now, Ily B. Designs has combined the two themes, creating the Live Like Bella White Hot Heels for a perfectly timed charity auction to benefit the family of 10-year-old Bella Rodriguez-Torres, who passed away on May 28, 2013 following a six-year battle with cancer.
On the day Bella passed away, social media (especially Instagram and Twitter) lit up with hundreds of requests for LeBron James and Dwyane Wade to write #LiveLikeBella on their shoes for Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals in Bella’s honor. By 7pm, it was evident that the players had gotten the word as more posts started rolling in: "It worked! It worked!" James and Wade were in Indiana but they posted pictures of the shoes they would be wearing. "#LiveLiveBella" was handwritten in white on their jet black shoes. It was a powerful tribute at an emotional time for a little girl who loved her HEAT.
Now, Ily B Designs has designed a women’s shoe that shows love for the Miami HEAT while promoting a simple motto along their red bottoms, "Live Like Bella
."The story broke my heart and this is my way of honoring Bella and her family," said Ily Beard, president of Ily B Designs. 100% of the highest bid will go to the Rodriguez-Torres family, their medical bills or the charity of their choice. The highest bidder at the end of the NBA Finals will win the shoes.
This unique pair of shoes comes in a size 7. However, it’s more than likely that the lucky winner will not want to wear these artsy shoes but rather display them as a reminder of lessons learned from this wonderful era and this beautiful girl. Love the HEAT and Live Like Bella.
July 3, 2013 UPDATE: The NBA requested that Ily B. Designs remove the shoe art auction that would have supported the family of Bella Rodriguez-Torres or a charity of their choice. Now, the artist has given the special shoes to Bella's parents. Raymond Rodriguez-Torres says via twitter: "We received these as a gift and will treasure them always. Thank you! #livelikebella"
