LeBron James raps verse over Jay-Z track in surprise studio session

New, comments

LeBron heads to the studio to work on his freestyle skills.

No, it wasn't an April Fools Day joke, but the King did have a trick up his sleeve.

A track by none other than Miami Heat forward and reigning MVP LeBron James, had an impromptu collaboration with friend and up-and-coming rapper Cotton on the appropriately titled "Kingdom". The backing track is from Jay-Z's hit "F**kwithmeyouknowIgotit" and features the first-known complete rap verse from the King.

TMZ got the exclusive audio as well as a quote from Cotton about how it all went down last summer in Ohio.

We were working out together and LeBron said 'let's get in the booth.' I said 'I'm going tonight', so he came to the studio. We were just having fun. Bron had jotted some notes down earlier, and he finished his verse in the studio.

So LeBron moved from the gym to the studio to lay this down, as transcribed by TMZ...

Some of it is clearly directed at his critics but there's clearly plenty of swagger from someone who had just come off back-to-back MVP and NBA Championship seasons.

What do you think of LeBron's rapping skills? We've heard them before last year and at the 2014 Battioke event but this latest foray might be teasing the fact that music might not just be a hobby for LeBron anymore...

Or not.
