Rothstein, McAdoo reassigned in coaching shuffle

The move will make room for Juwan Howard to be promoted from his role in player development, according to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.

Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted that Miami Heat assistant coaches Ron Rothstein and Bob McAdoo will play less prominent roles on the team's coaching staff this year -- and could be completely off the bench.

Wojnarowski said that both McAdoo and Rothstein are expected to remain with the organization. The coaching staff shuffle will likely clear the way for Juwan Howard, who served as an assistant coach in player development, to be promoted.

It's unclear what prompted Pat Riley and Erik Spoelstra to make the change, but the age differences among the members of the Heat coaching staff is evident. McAdoo has served as an assistant coach since 1995, and Rothstein was the Heat's first head coach in 1988. They have a combined age of 133. Howard, by contrast, arrived first as a player in 2010 and served as an assistant coach last year. Additionally, Wojnarowksi mentioned that top assistant David Fizdale, a 40-year-old who became an assistant coach for Miami in 2008, will continue in his role.
