Undrafted Duke guard Andre Dawkins invited to Heat camp

Andre Dawkins played for the Miami Heat Summer League team in Orlando, and now he has been invited to training camp on a non-guaranteed deal.

The Miami Heat training camp roster now stands at 18 after the agent of Andre Dawkins confirmed that he has signed a non-guaranteed deal to join the team later this month.

Dawkins spent time with the Heat at the Orlando Summer League after going un-drafted out of Duke University. Dawkins is a 6'4 guard known for his ability to shoot from distance. It's unlikely Dawkins survives camp as he would have to beat out Shannon Brown, who was signed last week, as well as both Reggie Williams and Tyler Johnson, who out played him in the Summer League.

Dawkins isn't an automatic cut, as he has the ability to stretch the floor unlike Johnson, Williams and Brown. Dawkins ability to shoot from deep could be what helps him secure a spot as the Heat are suddenly without a 3-point specialist on the team.

With Dawkins invited to camp, the Heat have two more spots that they can extend to players to join them for training camp. The Heat can carry 20 players to camp, but only 15 by the time the season begins on October 29.
