Miami Heat cut Corey Hawkins, sign Briante Weber

The Heat have decided to part ways with Corey Hawkins and instead opt to sign former VCU star Briante Weber.

According to a press release issued by the Miami Heat, the club has decided to sign Briante Weber and waive Corey Hawkins.

Hawkins appeared in in two preseason games with the Heat where he totaled six points, two rebounds, and one assist.

Weber was a player at Virgina Commonwealth where he started in 65 games (appeared in 127) averaging 6.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2.4 steals per contest. Weber was of course injured and missed the last 10 games of his senior year and likely went undrafted because of said injury. Weber also set a school record with his 45.5 inch vertical leap. In his senior year, Weber was exceptional averaging 8.1 points, 4.3 assists, and 3.9 steals.

He had previously signed with the Heat in early September but failed his physical on September 11 and was not added to the training camp roster.

If Weber is able to return to his previous form he will be a great defensive presence for the Heat. That coupled with his passing ability should make him a force to be reckoned with.
