Game Preview: Heat return home to host Carmelo, Knicks

New, comments

The Miami Heat went 2-1 on their West coast trip and now host the Knicks in Miami.

The Heat played pretty well on their west coast trip going 2-1 with wins over the Nuggets and Jazz, and playing the Blazers close but losing.

Unfortunately, they return home pretty banged up and injured. Justise Winslow, Dion Waiters, and James Johnson are all OUT for tonight’s game against the Knicks. On top of that, Luke Babbitt and Josh Richardson are listed as questionable.

That means likely another game of heavy minutes for Rodney McGruder and Wayne Ellington. And the Knicks (11-9) are are sitting at 6th in the East hoping to get a win.

Miami will likely continue to get monster production from Hassan Whiteside as he faces the Knicks. But the real issue for the Heat will be Kristaps Porzingis as a PF where the Heat are thin. Without Johnson, Miami is left with Josh McRoberts and Udonis Haslem there, and Haslem doesn’t see the court unless necessary.

Carmelo Anthony has had big games against the Heat and without Winslow, Miami lacks a wing defensive stopper. That will be left up to Ellington, McGruder and maybe even Derrick Williams. This will be tough for the Heat.

The Heat will need good play from Goran Dragic and Tyler Johnson to make this a game. And the Heat have a solid shot at winning if they can get production from those two and Whiteside.

The game is at 7:30 PM EST and you can see in on SunSports or listen on 790 the Ticket.

Here’s your probable starters:
Miami: Goran Dragic, Wayne Ellington, Rodney McGruder, Josh McRoberts, Hassan Whiteside
New York: Derrick Rose, Justin Holiday, Carmelo Anthony, Kristaps Porzingis, Joakim Noah
