Can Josh Richardson continue his streak of consecutive games with a steal?

New, comments

Richardson made at least one steal in his last six games. Will he pick the pocket of the Jazz tonight?

Josh Richardson gained attention in his rookie year with the Miami Heat by being an elite 3-point sharpshooter after the All-Star game. This season he's quietly ramping up his defensive intensity with 15 steals so far, which places him 24th in the NBA.

Currently he's tied, along with LeBron James, for the 7th longest active streak of consecutive games with at least one steal.

Player - consecutive games 1 or more steals (active) - total steals

  1. Austin Rivers - 10 - 21
  2. Stephen Curry - 9 - 22
  3. Kent Bazemore - 8 - 20
  4. Marcus Smart - 8 - 17
  5. Paul George - 7 - 28
  6. Avery Bradley - 7 - 17
  7. LeBron James - 6 - 17
  8. Josh Richardson - 6 - 16

Chris Paul holds the NBA record with at least one steal in 108 consecutive games. Douglas Sherman has the Heat record at 27 games. The Miami players with streaks over 20 games are,

  • Douglas Sherman 27 (1990)
  • Dwyane Wade 23 (2013), 21 (2009)
  • Tim Haraway 23 (1996)
  • Caron Butler 22 (2002)

Richardson has a ways to go to top them, but it'll be interesting to see if he can match his previous high of at least one steal in 7 consecutive games tonight in Utah. How far he can continue his larcenous ways this season remains to be determined (TBD).
