Miami Heat released a James Johnson ankle update:

Results of James Johnson’s MRI showed right ankle bursitis. Johnson is expected to miss 7-10 days and will not travel with the team to Atlanta and Boston.

Brief video explanation of ankle bursitis is shown below.

After the trip up north, Miami hosts the Dallas Mavericks, New Orleans Pelicans and Orlando Magic at home. Whether he’ll be able to participate in any of the games is problematic.

The flip side to the latest rash of injuries is the sidelined players have gotten some much-needed rest. The anticipated return of Hassan Whiteside and Justise Winslow will have them refreshed when they return to action and ready to spark the team for the dog-days of the season.

Heat have won 4 of last 5 games, and have the NBA’s best defensive rating over that span. Surprisingly the Chicago Bulls have quietly reeled off 5 straight wins.

This week’s question for the road warriors is who will step up to fill Johnson’s leadership void. Gauging the defensive intensity of the last two games, Miami isn’t done battling for a playoff spot by a long shot. Even when the 3’s aren’t falling.
