HHH GameTime Preview: Heat visit Dallas

New, comments

The Heat begin tonight’s action just one game out of a playoff spot.

NBA: Dallas Mavericks at Miami Heat Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

Tonight at 8:30 PM EST, the Miami Heat will face off against the Dallas Mavericks at the American Airlines Center (not to be confused with Miami’s own AmericanAirlines Arena). This is the second and final game this season between the twice Finals foes. Miami won the first meeting, 99-95 on January 19th.

In that game, Miami’s third win in a row, Goran Dragic lit up the Mavs for 32 points, on 11-of-15 shooting including four-of-four from outside. Tyler Johnson scored 23 off the bench while Dirk Nowitzki led Dallas with 19 points.

Overall, the Heat has won three straight and 10 of the last 11 regular-season meetings with the Mavericks. Miami has also won five straight regular season games in Dallas after the Mavs beat them nine straight times at home. If they win tonight, they will have swept the season series against Dallas for the fifth time in the last six years. The all-time series between the two teams is tied at 30-30 (14-15 in Dallas).

Tonight is the last road game out West for the Heat this regular season, the second-earliest calendar date for such a game in team history according to the Heat’s official game notes.

Miami has won three straight, and 16 of their past 18 to go from 19 games under .500 to just five games under. In their last game, they defeated the currently sixth seeded Indiana Pacers, 113-95 on Saturday night. Hassan Whiteside had 22 points with 17 rebounds, Dion Waiters also scored 22, and Goran Dragic scored 21 for the win. James Johnson scored 15 with eight helpers and seven rebounds off the bench, while Myles Turner countered for the Pacers with 18 points and seven boards.

Injury Report:

Willie Reed has been ruled out for tonight’s game with right ankle bursitis after getting injured playing against the Pacers. Justise Winslow continues to recover from right shoulder surgery and is making progress with the news last week that he doesn’t have to wear his arm sling anymore. Josh McRoberts (left foot stress fracture) also remains out but was spotted at practice without any visible protective gear last week shooting jumpers alongside Wayne Ellington under the watchful eye of the coaching staff.

Jose Juan Barea is out for the Mavs with a left calf strain.
