The Miami Heat avoided being eliminated from playoff contention Monday night after a thrilling overtime win against the visiting Cleveland Cavaliers to stay alive and fight another day.
With the Indiana Pacers, Milwaukee Bucks and Chicago Bulls all winning as well, the Heat must beat the Washington Wizards at home Wednesday night in their regular season finale, but they also need the Bulls (playing at home against the Brooklyn Nets) or the Pacers (who will host the Atlanta Hawks) to lose.
If they can beat the Wizards, Miami can reach the #7 seed if both the Pacers and Bulls lose. They will finish with the eighth and final playoff berth if the Pacers win AND the Bulls lose or if the Pacers lose AND the Bulls win.
Miami would be eliminated and finish at #9 if the Bulls (who hold the tiebreaker over the Heat) and the Pacers win, even if the Heat beat the Wizards.
