At the end of May, the Miami Heat and Chris Bosh reached a tentative deal to part ways. The deal marked the end of the “Big 3 Era” and the start of a new chapter for the Miami Heat. Last season, the Heat surprised everybody. This type of success was just a taste of what Riley can build going forward in Miami.

In an interview with the Palm Beach Post, Alonzo Mourning expressed his faith in Pat Riley. He explained how special it will be for him to build a contender once again:

“This is going to be even more special. I think this is going to be even more special considering how it all fell apart,” referencing the messy way the “Big Three Era” ended with James and Wade leaving and Bosh’s health. “It happened to me, illness.” “Pat had to rebuild. With Chris and LeBron, D-Wade leaving, same thing. Rebuilding. He’s one of the greatest basketball architects on the face of the earth. He knows what it takes to win. He knows what to do when it pertains to developing a champion. We’ve seen him do it time and time and time again. I trust this will be no different.”

Zo’s confidence in last season’s Miami Heat team was clear as he reflected on the absence of Chris Bosh. He explained that he believed the Heat could have beat Cleveland saying:

“Obviously if Chris was playing healthy it’s a different story in the Eastern Conference with us,” “We probably go through Cleveland. … Right through them. We probably beat them. We really do. I think we had enough tools to get it done.

Pat Riley has a lot of work to do this offseason, but has a solid foundation to build off of. It’s no secret that the team has been practicing together since they missed the playoffs. They are a dedicated group of players who have completely bought into the Heat culture. Mourning commented on their willingness to put in the extra work saying:

“There’s enough out there to make it work,” he said. “It’s enough out there to get us back again. Listen, this team and the pieces that we have, the coaching staff, the culture that we have, the mentality of the guys coming here. … unseen before guys coming in this early this summer.

Now what remains to be scene is if Pat Riley elects to go big game hunting, or build from the current foundation. There are certainly big names available and without Bosh, Miami has money available. Whatever the case, as always the NBA offseason will be an interesting time to be a Heat fan.
