Waiters has played in 30 games for the Heat this season, but has dealt with ankle issues for the past two seasons. It has frustrated him that he couldn’t get completely healthy.
The Heat have Waiters on a rehab plan to have him return to action, but apparently Waiters thought he wanted someone else to take a look. And that someone else has convinced Waiters to end his season to repair the issue.
The Heat were bracing for this decision, although it does not seem like it is one they want or possibly agree with. But they knew Waiters was looking for additional opinions. Waiters will not receive his $1.1 million bonus for games played this season.
The Heat will continue to turn to Goran Dragic, Tyler Johnson, Josh Richardson and Wayne Ellington in the back court. And now the return of Justise Winslow becomes important. The Heat also hope to have Rodney McGruder back at some point this season as well.
