Tyler Johnson receives second opinion on ankle sprain

Johnson will not play tomorrow against the Brooklyn Nets.

After landing awkwardly on Chicago Bulls center Robin Lopez Monday, Tyler Johnson said that he “felt like my knee popped.” Fortunately, X-rays revealed no structural damage, and the team ruled the injury a left ankle sprain.

Today, Johnson saw a doctor for a second opinion. Nothing new was found. And Johnson thinks he’ll be out days, not weeks.

As I emphasized Tuesday, this is good news for the Heat. Miami’s options on the wing are already thin with Dion Waiters and Rodney McGruder out. Johnson will likely return to his starting role once he is ready for a full load of minutes.

Although he is going to miss Friday’s game against the Brooklyn Nets, hopefully Johnson is back before the team’s current road trip. The Heat will wrap up their road swing Monday, Jan. 22 against the Houston Rockets.
