ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Miami Heat and Minnesota Timberwolves nearly agreed on a trade for Jimmy Butler last weekend. Minnesota “moved to amend the framework of the deal” after sharing Butler’s medical information with the Heat, typically a last move in trade discussions.
What did Pat Riley say when he heard that Minnesota wanted to change the proposed trade at the last minute?
ESPN’s Jorge Sedano, who got his start in local Miami sports radio, said that Riley used a common profanity to Minnesota’s Tom Thibodeau.
Pat Riley hung up on Tom Thibodeau and called him a "motherf-cker" when he asked for more assets in potential deal for Jimmy Butler, per @SedanoESPN pic.twitter.com/sQHyswK8jz— Bleacher Report (@BleacherReport) October 12, 2018
Pat Riley, though, refuted the report in an official statement.
”...Our conversations have been nothing but cordial and I have never used that kind of language in negotiations, but I do admit to telling Danny Ainge to...”— Miami HEAT (@MiamiHEAT) October 12, 2018
That last bit of Riley’s statement refers to a time when Riley told Celtics executive Danny Ainge to shut up, but with more colorful language.
