The Miami Heat’s official Twitter account announced that Derrick Walton Jr. has re-joined the Heat today as part of his two-way contract. Earlier today, I reported on the Sun-Sentinel’s Ira Winderman’s tweet saying that Derrick Jones Jr. is back with the Sioux Falls Skyforce.
Walton had just one NBA day remaining on his contract the last time he was sent back to the Skyforce. That means that tonight’s game against the New York Knicks will be his 45th and final NBA day with the Heat. However, Winderman reported that Walton can re-join the team after Saturday’s G League regular season finale.
Derrick Walton Jr. has rejoined the Heat. This will be the final NBA day on his two-way contract if he is in uniform. (Can then return for balance of season after Saturday's close of G League regular season.)— Ira Winderman (@IraHeatBeat) March 21, 2018
With Dwyane Wade set to miss tonight’s game, Walton will help with Miami’s backcourt depth.
