The Philadelphia 76ers listed Joel Embiid as doubtful for the Miami Heat playoff game in AmericanAirlines Arena on Thursday.

Medical Update:

Joel Embiid – (orbital bone fracture, left eye) is doubtful for tomorrow night’s game at Miami.

The situation could change by game time tomorrow to throw a curveball against Miami’s game plan, as Philadelphia previously did against the San Antonio Spurs.

The 76ers center suffered a sprained right hand in Sunday’s victory over the Phoenix Suns at Talking Stick Resort Arena. He was ruled out about 45 minutes before tip-off, but felt good during warm-ups and said he would be good to play.

The Spurs aren’t angels either come playoff basketball circa 2014.

“With James playing only five minutes in the fourth quarter, the San Antonio Spurs outscored the Heat 36-17 over the final 12 minutes to win 110-95 and take a 1-0 series lead.

“James, who could be heard telling teammates during the game that ‘they’re trying to smoke us out of here,’ scored 25 points in 33 minutes before heading to the locker room.”

Considering Embiid’s injury history surgery may be necessary to repair the bone due to a possibility of bone fragments getting loose from the crack.

If the fracture is more severe, your doctor will refer you to a plastic and reconstructive surgeon who specializes in treating eye injuries. An ophthalmologist may be called in to deal with the double vision. This specialist will determine whether you need surgery to repair the broken bone. Surgery may be needed to:

Remove bone fragments

Free trapped eye muscles and eliminate double vision

A bone fragment near the eyeball sounds dangerous if the fracture isn’t completely healed, even if a protective mask protects the area.
