The Miami Heat’s Bam Adebayo impressed lots of NBA observers in his rookie season, prompting ESPN’s Zach Lowe to call him “a bouncy and smart rookie” and say “Adebayo is going to be goooooood.” But when the NBA announced the All-Rookie teams today, Adebayo fell one vote short of making the second team.
Bam Adebayo did not make the NBA’s two All-Rookie teams. He just missed the cut, finishing 11th in the voting. No. 10 Josh Jackson made it with 45 points, while Adebayo was left off with 44 points.

Adebayo, who was the No. 14 pick in last June’s NBA Draft, fell one vote behind Josh Jackson of the Phoenix Suns, who was the 10th overall pick. A panel of 100 sportswriters and broadcasters voted for the All-Rookie selections. The Heat center’s stats didn’t jump off the page, but he utilized his defensive versatility to gain playing time as Hassan Whiteside’s role diminished.
It’s always tough for players not to receive the recognition they deserve. But regardless of whether he made the All-Rookie team, Adebayo will become a more effective NBA player as his game continues to expand. Hopefully the voters won’t snub him in ensuing years.
