With his season-ending ankle surgery in December and Dwyane Wade’s return to the Miami Heat, it may have been easy to forget that Dion Waiters is still a Heat player. But the Philadelphia native had some advice for his teammate Hassan Whiteside regarding his complaints about playing time: bite your tongue.
Appearing on the ESPN show “The Jump,” host Jalen Rose asked Waiters about Whiteside’s comments.
“As far as Hassan, the best thing to do is just bite your tongue sometimes,” he said. “At the end of the day because either you’re going to either back it up with your play or once again, the internet. Like I said, the gift and the curse. So I think he should learn from this. But at the end of the day, it should motivate him. At the end of the day, you don’t cry about that.”
Those are pretty strong comments from Waiters to a teammate, and the guard also said that he would have “got right in the gym” if he were in a similar situation. But then again, they may not remain teammates for long; the Heat will apparently look to trade Whiteside this summer.
