GAME PREVIEW: Heat start the new year with road game versus Cavaliers

New, comments

Miami faces Cleveland for the second time in three games.

NBA: Cleveland Cavaliers at Miami Heat Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Heat play their first game of 2019 on the road in another winnable game against the lowly Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night.

Both teams played evenly in the first half of their clash last Friday until the Heat, led by Justise Winslow, eventually pulled away in the third quarter and easily won 118-94. They would go on to lose their final game of 2018 against the Minnesota Timberwolves, but have an excellent opportunity to get back to their winning ways and reach .500 against the Cavs, who own the worst record in the NBA at 8-29.

Intriguingly, Dion Waiters is being listed as questionable for tonight’s game and it could be an excellent opportunity to ease him back into the lineup with a few minutes against an opponent that shouldn’t provide too much resistance — although you never know which Heat team you’re going to get on a nightly basis, and they’ve shown this season they’re capable of playing down to the competition.

Probable Starters:

Heat: Justise Winslow, Josh Richardson, Rodney McGruder, James Johnson, Hassan Whiteside

Cavaliers: Cedi Osman, Larry Nance Jr., Ante Zizic, Alec Burks, Collin Sexton
