Kelly Olynyk has missed the Miami Heat’s entire training camp and all their preseason games. Until now.
Heat listing Kelly Olynyk (right knee bruise) as probable for tomorrow's game vs. Magic. So Olynyk could make preseason debut in Orlando.— Anthony Chiang (@Anthony_Chiang) October 16, 2019
The Miami Herald’s Anthony Chiang reported that Olynyk is probable for Thursday’s game at the Orlando Magic. The stretch four sustained a knee injury while playing for the Canadian national team in an FIBA exhibition game over the summer.
The possible return for Olynyk is a good sign for the Heat. James Johnson did not travel with the team to Orlando; he was initially dismissed from the team for failing to meet conditioning requirements. Getting Olynyk some playing time before the regular season starts could help him shake off some rust after not playing in months.
In Olynyk’s absence, Erik Spoelstra has started Meyers Leonard and Bam Adebayo together. Olynyk’s return could put him in the starting power forward spot and move Leonard to a backup role.
